Rackspace Australia to fire up private VMware vCloud

Rackspace Australia will become one of VMware’s largest cloud partners in the country to offer dedicated vCloud private hosting by the end of this year.

The managed cloud provider has kicked off its public pitch for dedicated private vCloud services, which it will offer under the name Private Cloud powered by VMware vCloud.

It’s not the first VMware-based private cloud offering from Rackpace, but the first under the vCloud brand. Rackspace’s Angus Dorney said the new service will offer a higher degree of control for customers.

The dedicated vCloud service is a single-tenant, hosted environment with self-service and hosted catalogs. Customers also have access to the vCloud API and vCloud web portal.

Rackspace was announced as a major partner for the launch of VMware’s vCloud Air public cloud offering in April, but has yet to announce when it will start selling the service in Australia.

In May Rackspace announced a second data centre for Sydney for disaster recovery services, and the expansion of its existing Sydney data centre.
