Queensland Computers buys Optus Business Centre Gold Coast, looking for more acquisitions

Queensland Computers has acquired Optus Business Centre Gold Coast assets and is looking for more acquisitions as it seeks to build a “more diversified” business.

The deal, covering Optus Business Centre Gold Coast customers and staff but not the ABN, is the first acquisition for 21-year-old Queensland Computers. Terms were not disclosed.

It expands Queensland Computers’ capabilities in managed IT services, telecommunications, and end‑to‑end business technology solutions, and enhances the company’s ability to deliver “scalable, enterprise-grade services to mid‑market organisations across Queensland”, the acquisition announcement states.

It talked-up the deal as a “foundational step in building a larger, more diversified technology services group focused on reliability, capability, and Queensland-first service delivery.”

Optus Business Centre Gold Coast‘s client profile is “very similar to Queensland Computers existing target customer profile, generally being businesses in the 20-200 seat size, Queensland Computers Director Geoff Augutis told techpartner.news.

He noted that “we are also very experienced with our 200+ seat clients across our government and education business.”

“This move represents a major step forward as we continue to build a stronger, more capable Queensland-focused MSP,” said Queensland Computers Director Luke Augutis.

“The Gold Coast centre brings established business relationships, experienced personnel, and a strong market footprint that aligns perfectly with our strategic direction and regional expansion”

The company is “actively pursuing additional complimentary acquisitions over the coming years, with a targeted focus on strengthening its Managed Services Provider (MSP) arm”, its announcement states.

Its expansion strategy remains dedicated to the Queensland market.

"Significant" cash reserves

Asked about economic conditions, Geoff Augutis said “The economy is definitely not impacting us negatively, however supply chains are tight.”

“We are fortunate that we have significant cash reserves to take advantage of market conditions and very substantial warehousing capability which will ensure that we are secure even if supply chains get tighter. I do have concerns for some smaller operators who may struggle to supply stock in the coming months.”

Asked about the Queensland Government’s new procurement policy, announced late last year, Geoff Augutis was upbeat.

“We have seen a very SME & local friendly procurement policy released by Queensland Government and we see this as a win-win for them and the state. Local businesses simply do it better, we get it, we understand, we care.

“Our business has seen significant growth in working with QLD gov over the past few years and we also see that their other local suppliers are supporting each other too. Queensland is the state to be and we couldn't be prouder to be called Queensland Computers with the market looking like it does. It is a bright future for Queensland.”
