Rob Wells, former leader of Business Object's local business, sat down with CRN to talk about his appointment as the local operation head of telephony giant Avaya.
CRN: Why did you accept your current role?
(RW): I see Avaya as an interesting next step in my career challenge moving forward. While I have come from an enterprise software background, I believe I bring a different set of skills and experience to the role in terms of business focus. Now is a great time to join the company as they launch their hi-touch customer centric solutions onto the market.
CRN: What attracted you to Avaya?
(RW): Avaya has established strong relationships with leading customers across telecommunications, finance and government and also leads in contact centres, unified communications and IP Telephony. It has good relationships with their partners and distributors like NSC and Avnet.
CRN: What do you hope to achieve in your role as MD?
(RW): I have been brought in to grow Avaya in the A/NZ marketplace. We have great partners such as NSC and Agile, and we have recently added new distributors Avnet and Distribution Central to help us to grow our partner community.
CRN: How has the channel responded to the change in management?
(RW): I hope that they are pleased with the focus that I am applying to this. Through investing in the channel we are able to increase our service offerings, provide a broader coverage of the market place and increase our skills base. Therefore we will be focusing heavily on developing our go to market strategy in the channels.
CRN: What has the local response been to Avaya's acquisition of Nortel's enterprise business? Will it change Avaya's local channel structure?
(RW): Due to the current ongoing situation we are unable to answer any questions around Nortel.
