Phil Cameron secures VP role at CA

IT management software vendor CA has taken Phil Cameron (pictured) on-board as its vice-president of sales, responsible for the vendor's Internet Security Business Unit (ISBU).

Cameron will be responsible for the vendor's security products in the consumer and small business markets.

Cameron told CRN all of the sales for CA's products go through channel partners.

In his new role, he will be responsible for driving "better communication" between the vendor and its 540 active resellers in Australian and New Zealand.

"I've just settled into the role and am looking at understanding [reseller relationship] a bit better," he said.

"I'm actively looking to hire a new channel account manager to look after [CA's] distributors (Ingram and Express Data). I'll be looking at both distributors and how to leverage the relationships."

Cameron said he had not worked with Express Data in the past but knows MD Ross Cochrane well from former roles at Toshiba.

Cameron said he was also working with the distributors and engaging channel partners for the recently launched CA Internet Security Suite 2010.

He was also working on understanding a new CA business-business product to be launched towards the end of 2009.

Cameron comes into the role after 18 months as Lenovo's managing director and several years as channel manager for both Lenovo and IBM.

He also spent a number of years in sales with Toshiba.

"I wanted to do something different and left [Lenovo] on an amicable note," he said.

"My time with [the company] left me with a lot of fond memories and some proud results."

Cameron said he would have no difficulty moving from hardware to software. He said that from a "channel methodology" the go-to-market was very similar.

"The main differences for me are the technology and [differences in the] sales cycle," he said..
