Oracle has posted updates for two of its virtualised workstation tools.
The company unveiled updates for the Sun Ray Plus Client platform as well as the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure platform.
Developed by Sun as a thin client offering, the Ray platform allows administrators to host workstations on a central server that is accessed through low-power end-user terminals.
Oracle said that the Sun Ray Plus 3 Client would tout better energy efficiency with an Energy Star 5.0 certification along with support for faster networking platforms and USB 2.0 connections.
To manage the hosted workstations, Oracle is also rolling out an update for the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. The 3.1.1 release will look to expand compatibility by adding support for Windows 7 as well as networking support for Microsoft's Hyper-V virtualisation platform and improved performance for Oracle's VM VirtualBox platform.
"Oracle is committed to helping customers leverage the power of virtualization, through the most complete and integrated virtualisation portfolio," said Oracle Linux and virtualisation engineering senior vice president Wim Coekaerts.
"With this comprehensive solution set, customers can improve their systems’ performance, security and access, while reducing energy consumption and lowering overall costs."
