A lawyer representing Oracle in the defence of its deal to buy Sun Microsystems is confident that the purchase will be allowed to go ahead, according to reports.
Thomas Vinje, a lawyer at Clifford Chance, which is representing Oracle, claimed that customers have been queuing up to speak in Oracle's favour, and that the majority expect to benefit from the consolidation.
"There is a mountain of consistent evidence favoring every one of our key propositions," Vinje told Bloomberg. "If we are successful on any one of them, the case must go away."
Oracle's US$7.4bn purchase has been approved in the US, but European regulators have yet to reach a decision, especially in relation to competition.
The European Commission is currently hearing evidence from companies including Ericsson, Microsoft and SAP, and will deliver its verdict on 27 January, unless it puts that date back further.
