Optus boss Allen Lew says the telco now has 10 million mobile customers

Optus chief executive Allen Lew says the telco has cracked 10 million mobile customers, while reporting annual growth in revenue, subscribers and net profit for it’s full 2017 financial year.

In an announcement this week the company revealed it’s full-year operating revenue for the year ending 31 March 2018, had risen 3.4 percent to $8.7 billion, with EBITDA growing 3.9 percent to $2.77 billion.

Optus also reported annual growth across both mobile and broadband subscriptions wiyj 384,000 and 225,000 new subscribers respectively.

In its fourth quarter the telco added 154,000 new mobiles services across postpaid and prepaid handsets and mobile broadband. Its operating revenue grew 3 percent to $2.17 billion, despite the “impact of the temporary suspension of connections onto the NBN HFC access network”.

Quarterly reported EBITDA declined to $712 million, from $741 million during the same period last year, while quarterly net profit also declined to $208 million from $250 million.

Optus boss Lew was satisfied the telco had delivered strong results against its plan over the past year.

“This financial year Optus reached the milestone of 10 million mobile customers who are attracted to our award winning national mobile network, unique content and competitive plans,” he said.

“We remain focused on executing our objective of delivering a premium mobile network with exclusive video content that engages Australian customers. As the exclusive domestic broadcaster for all 64 matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and with our English Premier League broadcast rights extended for a further three seasons to 2022, Optus will continue to be the home of elite soccer in Australia.”

The company said it now had 6.33 million 4G customers, up by 537,000 year-on-year, and that its mobile network reached 96.9 percent of the population.

A highlight of Optus’ quarter was designing and delivering telco infrastructure to support the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, a major event that it also partnered on with Cisco to deliver connectivity for.
