The Department of Defence has handed out a combined $20 million in contracts to both Optus and Adelaide-based ISV Consunet.
Optus was awarded a three-year extension to provide data transmission services, valued at $14.6 million. The contract runs from July 2019 to June 2022.
“We are pleased that the Department of Defence has chosen to resign with Optus, and look forward to continuing our work with them,” an Optus spokesperson told CRN.
A department spokesperson told CRN that Optus has been providing data transmission services to the department since 2011.
“As there were no extension options available, a new contract was entered into with Optus to continue these services as they are not available from alternative providers,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile Consunet was given $5.5 million for software development and integration services contributing to one of the department’s electronic warfare programs.
“The contract with Consunet is contributing to the delivery of the JP9321 - Joint Electronic Warfare sub-program. This sub-program was approved by government in 2018,” the spokesperson said.
Consunet was also the sole bidder for the contract. Tender documents said it was “due to an absence of competition for technical reasons.”
