Local builder Optima Technology Solutions has beaten out several multinational competitors to secure a two-year, $5 million contract to supply 1400 notebooks and 4600 desktops to the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority.
The RTA is replacing Dell machines with the Optima desktop (WorkPro D9S Series) and notebook (Centoris G300 Series), which are pre-loaded with a standard operating environment and further customised with a user-specified set of applications.
Sue Hartmann, national sales manager, corporate and government at Optima, said the RTA has more than 400 individual applications that some users want but others do not need.
Optima also won the contract based on its ability to meet service level agreement (SLA) requirements to "install to desk", she said.
Under this arrangement, RTA staff send an order electronically to Optima and the product is delivered and installed with no intervention from the RTA's IT department, Hartmann said.
Optima is delivering products to RTA locations in metropolitan areas, while 78 business partners/resellers would service regional RTA offices, Hartmann said.
"This contract demonstrates that there is most definitely a place for local vendors in the Australian government market, Cornel Ung, managing director at Optima, said in a statement.
"Being locally based, we are able to build and deliver a range of competitive, fully customised products on demand and then back these products with a nationwide service and support network that multinationals are unable to rival."
The company delivered more than 40,000 systems to the government sector in the last financial year.
