NTT kicks AaaS into govt with CommVault service

Integrator NTT Com ICT Solutions has joined with CommVault to launch "archive-as-a-service" in Australia.

Branded "archive-as-a-service", NTT is specifically targeting the government sector with the service, touting its ability to address "policy, compliance and commercial pressures" faced by public agencies.

The reseller said in a statement that it's using a shared data centre in Canberra and the service will be introduced to NSW and Victoria after an ACT launch.

"Our offering of archive-as-a-service comes at a critical time for government agencies when the political agenda is driving cost-savings as cuts are changing the landscape," said Tarquin Bellinger, NTT 's general manager Enterprise Services.

"At the same time, governments specifically face the challenge of exponentially growing data, increasingly demanding compliance requirements and significant consequences for non-compliance."

Justin Cooper , CommVault's area vice president of cloud solutions group, said: "One of the key benefits of a CommVault-powered cloud solution is that you no longer need to be locked into a single storage or server vendor relationship."

"In turn this means service providers can implement a mix of low-, medium- and high-performance storage services across multiple vendors to best suit their customers’ needs, just as NTT ICT is doing."

CommVault cloud solutions group vice president Gerry Sillars said that NTT's new offering is unique in the Australian channel.

"NTT ICT is taking a pioneering position by offering archive-as-a-service in this dedicated way, which could revolutionise how government agencies will protect and store data going forward," Sillars said.

CommVault is also celebrating taking out the 2014 Microsoft Server Platform Partner of the Year Award, in recognition of the Simpana software platform. The honour will be formally bestowed at Microsoft's WPC event in Washington DC next month.

"CommVault is honoured to be recognised as the Microsoft Server Platform Partner of the Year for the second time," said Randy De Meno, CommVault's chief technologist for Windows Products & Microsoft Partnerships.

De Meno said that Simpana is the result of a 15-year relationship with Microsoft and the investment has "enabled us to quickly integrate Microsoft Azure compute and storage along with Windows server and mobile environments".
