NSW government launches $37m small business advisory programme

The NSW Government has officially launched its upgraded $37 million Small Business Advisory Program, making fee-free, expert business support available to small business owners across the state from today.

Delivered through the Service NSW Business Bureau, the programme offers flexible support across digital, phone and face-to-face channels, covering areas including AI adoption, customer acquisition, cash-flow strategy and financial health checks.

The programme was redesigned following a major review led by entrepreneur Mark Bouris AM, drawing on feedback from more than 3,000 business owners, peak bodies, business chambers and councils across NSW.

In its first phase, business owners can access up to four hours of free, personalised one-on-one advisory sessions covering core business skills.

The programme is anticipated to deliver up to 11,325 hours of one-on-one advice in its first six months. Dedicated support for multicultural business owners, as well as events, workshops and networking opportunities, is also included from launch.

A second phase, scheduled for late February, will add specialist advice for high-demand sectors including construction and hospitality, targeted programmes for Aboriginal and women-led businesses, in-person local workshops, and AI-powered digital tools to help business owners conduct quick health checks and match with tailored support.

Minister for Small Business Janelle Saffin said integrating the advisory support into the Service NSW Business Bureau created a single access point for owners regardless of location or business type.

"Whether you're a tradie in Dubbo, a cafe owner in Parramatta, or a tech startup in Tamworth, expert help is now just a phone call, click, or quick visit away," Saffin said.

NSW Small Business Commissioner Kalina Koloff said the programme would help owners "realise their ambitions, strengthen their resilience, and continue creating jobs, opportunities and vibrant communities throughout NSW."

“As NSW Small Business Commissioner, I am delighted that small business owners will now have access to this valuable support, empowering them to achieve their full potential and build stronger businesses for the future," she said.

The advisory programme is part of the government's broader small business support agenda. NSW recorded a net increase of more than 200,000 new businesses since the Minns Government came to office, according to the government.
