Novell has previewed a new Liberty-based federated identity solution, called Odyssey, designed to let enterprise swap identity information with business partners.
Novell touted the project's compliance with both the Liberty Alliance 1.2 specification and the Secure Assertions Markup Language (SAML) protocol.
The combination will give companies flexibility when establishing trusted relationships with business partners, Novell said.
Unlike current Liberty-enabled federated identity solutions, Novell will take Odyssey a step further into managing and provisioning accounts across each partner's system.
When a user first accesses a partner site, for instance, he'll have the option to automatically create a new account.
Novell is a major player in the identity management space with products such as nSure, and according to Mike Neuenschwander, an analyst with the Burton Group, could be the same in federated identity.
"Federated identity between enterprises is the next step in identity management," said Neuenschwander in a statement. "By leveraging its provisioning and metadirectory technologies and supporting industry standards, Novell has the potential be a leading player."
Odyssey is planned to ship in mid-2005, said Novell.
