Nortel: Local changes won't hurt channel

The networking vendor announced in early February that its business across Asia will be divided between its Carrier and Enterprise divisions.

Mark Fioretto, leader - enterprise A/NZ/ASEAN at Nortel told CRN the restructure is said to be in line with the global business restructuring announced in November 2008.

Fioretto claimed that the changes will not affect the day to day business and will make it a "slimmer and fitter organisation".

"Under this new corporate structure A/NZ and Asia is divided between its Carrier and Enterprise divisions," he said.

"This allows Nortel to have an end to end focus on these two very distinct markets and we believe drive greater productivity and efficiency through a simplified structure."

He said channel partners will still have direct contact with their account managers.

"Resourcing levels remain unchanged and because of a more direct path to senior management [our] channel should find Nortel even more responsive to its ideas and opportunities," he said.

However the changes have meant the resignation of Mark Stevens as managing director of Nortel A/NZ.

It is not yet known what Stevens' career plans are following his resignation.

Fioretto, stated, Stevens was currently taking time out with his wife and family.

As for further job cuts to the local office, he said, he couldn't comment on any further changes to the business.

"I'd like to point out that these changes are designed to make Nortel a stronger and more viable competitor, and that we're committed to driving our business forward in the region," he said.
