Nokia has disputed reports that its Lumia 800 is struggling to sell, claiming the Windows-based smartphone was its best seller yet.
The statement, given to the Reuters news agency, came a day after Nokia shares slumped after analysts said sales of the key smartphone – the first in Nokia's Windows line-up – had been slower than expected.
Pacific Crest Securities sparked concern among investors when it reported earlier this week that Nokia may have shipped fewer than one million units for the quarter, suggesting fewer than 500,000 sold to consumers.
Nokia, however, claimed the handest was doing well in UK shops. "Lumia 800 sales in the UK are off to an excellent start," it said in the statement.
"Based on earliest data, the sales start of the Lumia 800 is the best ever first week of Nokia smartphone sales in the UK in recent history."
"By our measures, we have gained significant smartphone sell-out share in the channels in which we are operating in the UK."
We are waiting to hear back from Nokia for more details and clarification on its sales claims.
