No hybrid cloud for Aussie VMware partners - yet

Virtualisation provider VMware has launched its VMware Hybrid Cloud Services (VHCS) in the US, but has no plans for an immediate launch in Australia.

According to a VMware representative, the company will look at extending VHCS to the local market in 2014. However they emphasised no firm decision has been made yet.

If and when it is launched in Australia, the VHCS will be a VMware-branded service running the entire VMware vCloud stack. Customer delivery will be through existing VMware channel partners, the VMware representative told CRN.

“In most cases, VCHS will complement existing vCloud Powered and vCloud Datacenter Service Provider Partners portfolios. The vCloud Hybrid Service is a highly standardized, productized IaaS,” she said.

At present, VCHS is an extension of VMware’s existing cloud portfolio available in Australia and the APAC region. Across Asia-Pacific and Japan the company has 1200 VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP) partners, including 26 vCloud powered partners running a total of 26 datacentres.

“In addition, VMware has four enterprise-class hybrid cloud partners in APJ known as vCloud Datacenter Service Providers that offer the additional benefits of guaranteed SLAs and contractual assurances for security and compliance – these are SingTel in Singapore, Optus in Australia as well as Hitachi and Softbank Telecom in Japan,” said the VMware rep.
