Virtual IT Group has named Maurice McCarthy as CEO as the company's founder, Christian Pacheco, transitions into the role of founding director.

McCarthy joins from Optus, where he served as MD of customer success from 2021 to 2025 and VP of retail and channel sales from 2017 to 2021.

He has also worked at Digicel from 2009 to 2017 across roles in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific.

As CEO, his priorities will include enhancing client outcomes, improving service reliability and responsibly embedding AI across service delivery.

Pacheco said the appointment followed a comprehensive leadership assessment focused on the evolving needs of clients operating in increasingly complex cyber, regulatory, and AI-enabled environments.

“Maurice stood out as a leader with the right combination of client empathy, operational discipline, and modern technology insight," he said.

"Our clients face mounting pressure from cyber threats, compliance obligations, and rapid AI adoption. Maurice has a deep understanding of the dynamics our clients are faced with on a daily basis, and a clear vision for leadership."
