Mike Barber

NEC Australia has appointed Mike Barber as its new country head and D'wayne Mitchell as IT solutions director, as part of a larger management reshuffle.

The company announced Barber as its new chief operating officer, replacing managing director Tetsuro Akagi as head of the country.

As executive director of the IT solutions and services business, Barber was essential in transforming NEC Australia into a top tier ICT company, according to NEC.

Barber said: "This is a very exciting time in our industry and NEC Australia, along with our industry partners, is at the crest of this hi-tech wave."

Akagi, who has been with NEC since 1983, was promoted to chief executive of NEC Asia-Pacific and appointed as new senior vice president of NEC Corporation. He will remain in Melbourne and work closely with Barber to build relationships within the Asia-Pacific.

D'wayne Mitchell, former director of communications solutions, is the new director of IT solutions. Mitchell will be responsible for the delivery of NEC Australia's infrastructure and applications operational services, national shared services, the project management office, as well as consulting and business solutions and professional services. Mitchell has 25 years' industry experience.

Andy Hurt will replace Mitchell as the new director of communications solutions. He was formerly the executive general manager of channel. Hurt has previously held senior management roles at Honeywell and Avaya.
