Niche distributor MultiMedia Technology (MMT) has been appointed to distribute the Linksys range of VoIP products, bundled with software developed by home VoIP provider engin.
Previously, Ingram Micro was the sole distributor of the range of Linksys VoIP products, bundled with engin software.
Cameron McIver, marketing manager MMT, said Ingram could no longer claim the sole distributor title.
“Linksys approached us because we have been selling [its] VoIP products for a number of years. We were told our sales matched and even bettered that of Ingram Micro,” he said.
Rodney Heron, territory account manager southern region at Linksys said MMT had a different sub-set of partners from Ingram Micro and provided good value for the niche market.
“Ingram Micro’s been distributing the range of products for well over 12 months and it was mainly geared towards retail chain stores located in NSW,” he said.
“MMT's based in Melbourne and has smaller integrators and regional based reseller, which could refocus our products to a SOHO and SMB market. Its wide reseller base was tech savvy and I think that’s where our products fit in well.”
MMT will distribute four Linksys VoIP hardware products pre-bundled with, engin software.
This was also the first time MMT was selling an engin products. “This was an opportunity for us to get into selling engin as well.
"However we won’t be looking at distributing engin hardware, it's just a company choice not to take the engin relationship further,” said McIver.
