Minister Conroy packs his bags for Geneva

The whirlwind publicity tour for the Federal Government's national fibre rollout will land in Geneva, Switzerland next week, where Australia's Communications Minister Stephen Conroy will sell Australia's NBN plan at an international broadband conference.

The visit follows a National Broadband Network media blitz over several weeks, including today's news that Melbourne would host the NBN Co "nerve centre".

Conroy [pictured, centre] will travel to Geneva next week to speak at a conference organised by the United Nations Broadband Commission.

"I've been fortunate enough to be appointed as a Commissioner, to talk about what we're doing," Conroy told journalists today, reminding them of his appointment to the United Nations group in May. "There is genuine worldwide interest in what we are going here in Australia."

"I can't stress to you how much the world is watching what we've achieved here, the agreement with Telstra."
