Microsoft has said it will start beta testing its all-in-one Microsoft Update mid-March.
The software giant said it wanted a cross-section of users familiar with Windows, Office, SQL Server and Exchange.
Microsoft's chairman and chief technologist has already announced Microsoft Update, a consolidated update service blending sites and services for the company's operating systems and applications.
In an email to potential beta testers, Microsoft said Microsoft Update will offer security updates for "Windows, Office, and other Microsoft applications" from one location and work with Automatic Update to take the patching chore off users' shoulders.
The specific non-Windows products in Microsoft Update won't be identified until early March.
