Microsoft promotes Ingram to VAD status

Ingram Micro has landed a Microsoft tender to become the software giant’s only value-added distributor in Australia.

Its partnership status was part of a new global Microsoft program that identified distributors and resellers that drive awareness of Microsoft’s virtualisation products.

Resellers would have access to marketing resources such as Microsoft’s assessment and planning toolkit and virtualisation partner profitability kit.

Microsoft issued the tender last July and the process was completed last September, said David Lenz, director of Ingram Micro's enterprise technology Group.

Ingram Micro had an existing "full service" partnership with Microsoft selling software and hardware.

And the distributor has flagged possible cloud tie ups between the two companies as a result of this deal.

"Microsoft also has strong cloud services, so we're already looking at what we might offer and how these will fit with other cloud service offerings we provide through our managed services group,"  Lenz said.

"This deeper partnership with Ingram Micro will give our partners the help they need to deliver Microsoft virtualisation solutions to the market,” said Phil Goldie, director of Microsoft Australia's server and tools business group.

Ingram Micro will launch a website where interested resellers can register their interest.
