Microsoft has released an update for the Surface Pro 2 tablet to fix glitches caused by last month's firmware release.
The company yanked its 10 December update after users reported false error messages after installation. The update also caused battery drain and further issues when the tablet was put into sleep mode.
Microsoft is only rolling out the patch in waves, much to the annoyance of Surface Pro 2 owners who have had to contend with problems for several months.
The company said it would only push the update to users affected by the faulty December firmware.
"This weekend we released an update that addresses the unexpected wake and battery drain behaviour experienced by a small number of Surface Pro 2 customers who installed the December Windows Update," the spokesperson told ZDNet. "This should have no impact on customers who had not received the December update. We are working hard to deliver the rest of the December update to those customers who had not received it prior to it being removed from distribution."
Ongoing problems
It's possible Microsoft will have to release a second patch, given a number of Surface Pro 2 owners have reported the new update still hasn't fixed some issues. Microsoft hasn't responded to a request for clarification.
"One issue I am still having is that the battery capacity is inaccurate after going into sleep mode," said BCVHOG, commenting on Microsoft's forums. "I'm finding that the full charge capacity is drifting down as the device sleeps."
Owners of second-generation Surface tablets have reported a range of issues over the last few months. Microsoft earlier this month promised to patch a BitLocker bug that locked Surface 2 owners out of their devices.
