Melbourne's 5G Networks acquires Security Shift for $4 million

Melbourne-headquartered managed IT and digital services firm 5G Networks (5GN) announced it had acquired of cybersecurity consultancy Security Shift for $4 million on January 16, 2024. 

With over 2,500 corporate clients, 5GN is a licensed telecommunications carrier that provides cloud, data networking, data centre managed IT and digital marketing services.

The company owns and operates a nationwide data network with points of presence in all major Australian capital cities, Singapore, USA, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

Security Shift provides managed services, outsource IT engineering and software development with a focus on public cloud, data centre, critical infrastructure and Australian government Information Security Manual (ISM).

The company has designed, implemented, secured and operated critical infrastructure for various nations.

It currently operates several critical infrastructure systems with ISM compliance up to protected level and other systems that are PCI-DSS service provider certified.

Security Shift's CEO Chris Wright will continue in his role and will join the 5GN executive team.

5GN said the acquisition will "allow the expansion of services" to its large corporate customers. It reported a "significant uptake in its Essential 8 audits" to large corporate customers.

“We certainly see the importance and growth in the security area, we are constantly asked to assist our larger managed IT clients and have been restricted in the past as to what we could provide, Chris and the team will enable 5GN to unlock a number of opportunities within our customer base," 5GN's managing director Joe Demase said.

"I am also excited for Chris to join the executive team give his experience across a number of technical disciplines in addition to his deep security experience.”

Webcentral and 5G Networks completed their merger in 2021.
