McAfee completes US$350M Safeboot acquisition
According to McAfee, users will be able to encrypt individual files and folders as well as the entire local hard drive for a range of devices, including PCs, laptops, smart phones, USB drives and PDAs.

Dave DeWalt, chief executive officer and president of McAfee said the company’s goal is to provide customers with comprehensive data protection.

“The combination of SafeBoot's policy-driven encryption with McAfee's host and network data loss prevention solutions helps customers meet the complex challenges of protecting their confidential information.

McAfee plans to integrate SafeBoot technology into McAfee ePO, the vendor’s centralised management console for enterprise customers.

As previously announced, Gerhard Watzinger, the chief executive officer of SafeBoot, will lead the newly-established Data Protection product business unit and will report directly to Dave DeWalt, chief executive officer and president of McAfee.

Additionally, SafeBoot's mobile phone offerings will merge with McAfee's current mobile solution.
