The ability to sync Adobe application settings via the cloud, even between Macs and PCs, is part of Adobe's latest update to its Creative Cloud subscription software suite.
Adobe launched Creative Cloud in Australia last month, offering month-by-month or yearly subscriptions to popular Adobe creative tools such as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. Adobe also includes 20GB of online storage along with the ability to sync files to the cloud and share them with others.
The new Creative Cloud applications still run on the desktop, not in a browser, but they aren't available for outright purchase as Creative Suite was. Adobe is phasing out Creative Suite as it pushes customers towards the subscription software model, similar to Microsoft's push to move customers to Office 365 subscriptions rather than purchasing copies of Office 2013 outright.
Creative Cloud is available for $50 per month or $600 per year, although Adobe requires new users to sign up for at least 12 months. It's also possible to subscribe to individual applications for $20 per month. Adobe dropped Creative Cloud prices several months ago in the face of the Australian government's IT pricing inquiry.
The latest Creative Cloud update includes new versions of 15 Adobe desktop applications including Adobe Photoshop CC, InDesign CC, Illustrator CC, Dreamweaver CC and Premiere Pro CC. Adobe has also introduced the Creative Cloud desktop application, which allows subscribers to synchronise application settings between computers, including workspace settings such as preferences, presets, brushes, and libraries. Other new features include a new Smart Sharpen tool in Photoshop and new Touch Type tool in Illustrator, as well as integration with the Behance online creative community.
