Health technology firm Magentus has announced that Rachael Powell will take the helm as chief executive and board director from 1 August 2024.

Powell who will be reporting directly to the Magentus board, moves from ASX-listed online accounting company Xero, where she was the chief customer officer. In her new role, Powell will oversee all health divisions of Magentus.

Prior to Xero, Powell held senior roles at IBM and brings extensive experience in scaling technology-oriented businesses globally.

Her appointment comes as Magentus continues its growth trajectory, focusing on improving healthcare outcomes for patients and customers.

Mark McConnell, the current chief executive and co-founder of the original Citadel business that evolved into Magentus, will transition to the role of executive chairman.

He will retain responsibility for the non-health divisions – Kapish, Citadel Group, and Citadel Technology.

McConnell's new role will involve close collaboration with Powell and the board on strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and market expansion.

Powell said she is delighted to join Magentus as its chief executive, and to lead a company that is at the forefront of health technology innovation.

This leadership transition marks a new chapter for Magentus as it continues to its work to innovate in clinical systems, practice management software, and health informatics.

The company aims to leverage Powell's expertise to further enhance its position in the global health technology market.

Last year, Magentus named Christopher Ladds as the chief executive of its Clincal Diagnostics division, moving from PwC.
