Macquarie Government develops Splunk-powered security SaaS platform

Macquarie Government has launched a security service to help simplify compliance for Australian state and federal government departments.

Developed on the Splunk Enterprise Security platform, the service is a security information and event management-as-a-service (SIEMaaS) product that monitors IT systems to simplify the management of security events and threat defence.

The platform combines cyber security systems with related data across on-premises and public cloud environments like AWS and Azure. Information is provided within a single portal, providing insights into threats and attacks.

The service is hosted within MacGov’s “GovZone” secure cloud environment, where service components remain onshore and sovereign.

MacGov managing director Aidan Tudehope said SIEMaaS offers a certain level of “cyber defence sophistication” previously out of reach to mid-sized government departments in a comparatively more affordable solution.

“Now that ICT environments feature multiple security layers to protect diverse and often dispersed organisations, companies are facing information overload while trying to secure assets, data and users,” Tudehope said.

“By unifying all this information in one place, SIEMaaS provides a single view for security events across all facets of a business shoring up the weakest links in an organisation’s cyber-defence.”

SIEMaaS is available either as a standalone service or bundled with MacGov’s recently announced security operations centre as-a-service (SOCaaS).
