Lync Software on partner drive
Local security solution specialist Lync Software has announced a reseller recruitment drive, as it moves to a channel model.

The Adelaide-based company is seeking up to 20 VARs, professional services providers and two to three OEM partners.

The move comes after a successful jaunt in the US market with technology and sales partner, Layton Technology.

The also coincides with the launch of a new removable device management product, DeviceShield, which competes with Centennial Software’s DeviceWall and SmartLine’s DeviceLock.

The product is a collaboration between the two companies and is aimed at managing security risks related with devices such as USB memory sticks, PDAs and iPods.

For Lync CEO, Kym Welsby, with the rising popularity of iPods and growth in legacy SHDs, the local market was ripe for the picking.

Citing Gartner research he said some 80 per cent of security threats come from within an organisation.

“Threats to the network either come in through the firewall all through the front door,” he said. “Organisations spend most of there energy on the external threat but aren’t doing much about internal ones.”

Lync would seek to grow a national network of partners through offering sales, training and technical support to its burgeoning channel, Welsby said.

“We’re trying to encourage partners to use our tools to develop services revenue,” he said. “Sectors like banking and government have been quick to adopt these products in the US but any organisation is applicable,” he said.
