Logica signs outsourcing deal

Logica will support NHMRC's staff in Canberra and Melbourne working at the National Institute of Clinical Studies.

It will also support its requirements for back office infrastructure services for remote staff.

The NHMRC, Australia's body for supporting health and medical research, needed an IT service provider in advance of the expiry of the organisation's service level agreement with the Department of Health and Ageing.

"NHMRC is an independent statutory agency, and we need to procure services specific to our requirements and separate from the Department of Health and Ageing," said Susan Bone, director of IT Services, NHMRC.

The project involves creating processes and the transfer to Logica of existing services and support from the Department of Health and Ageing's incumbent service provider.

It will then implement the infrastructure, including a scalable and secure gateway; data networks and service desk establishment, service management; security management, and desktop, server, and network support.

Logica will also implement an ICT infrastructure to support the organisation's grants management program.

Project grants support individual researchers and research teams for research across all fields of health and medical research.

"We selected Logica based on value for money, proactive relationship management, and strong methodology and technical expertise," said Bone.

Colin Holgate, CEO, Logica, Australia said the strategy it put in place to underpin its services with strong service management methodologies is now reaping benefits in the government outsourcing market.

"Our services are aimed to be flexible and transparently-priced to support the goals of NHMRC, while reducing costs and improving efficiency of services.  We look forward to a long term and mutually rewarding relationship with NHMRC," he said.
