LG to make all-glass Optimus with LED edges

LG-light-up-edges-mock-up

We've always had issues with bezels and notifications eating up our precious screen real estate – but LG has a cunning plan to fix the problem. The smartphone manufacturer's working on next-gen, all-glass handsets with smart edges that light up via LEDs for SMS and notification alerts.

According to our secret mole, LG has invested tons of money in glass technology and is planning future smartphones that can project light out of the glass sides.

LG's halo handsets might even look something like our mock-up, based on the Optimus 2X – with an edge-to-edge screen sitting uninterrupted and pretty on top. It means you'll be able to carry on with your train-bound Misfits viewing or Facebook photo stalking without those pesky notifications getting in the way.

If you got addicted to the glowing text message alert on the Nokia N8 – and have managed to forget the 3220's flashing rubber grips – you'll be waiting patiently, like us, for the first official word on next year's Optimus from LG.
