Lan 1 supplies Canopy to CommsLogic
Lan 1 has been appointed by QLD-based ISP CommsLogic to supply it with Motorola’s MOTOwi4 Canopy wireless broadband technology for a rollout of its network to Logan City, QLD.

The deal, worth around $1m for Lan 1, is part of CommsLogic’s plans to eventually provide all of its customers in QLD with broadband connectivity, limited DSL and cable broadband coverage.

John Hamill (pictured), Lan 1’s technical director, said the distributor helped CommsLogic to trial and test different products before the ISP settled on Motorola’s Canopy range of wireless equipment.

“CommsLogic had a situation where it needed high-speed broadband connectivity for its customer base. It settled for Canopy because it provides access points installed on 26 base stations utilising both the 5.7 GHz and the 900 MHz spectrum.

“Beyond providing the products, we are also providing CommsLogic with support for their help desk and support for their deployment and integration team, which will further add to the initial payment of around $1m,” said Hamill.

This is the second time Lan 1 has supplied CommsLogic with the Canopy technology. It previously supplied the ISP in June for its network rollout in the Gold Coast. That deal was worth around $800,000 Hamill said.

The ISP was looking at further rolling out its QLD network to Townsville in the near future, but had no announcements have been made about who it would partner with, he said.
