Australian manufacturer and e-tailer Kogan Technologies has released an open-market eBook Reader for $189.
Kogan claimed the Kogan 6 eBook Reader is one centimetre thick, has multiformat support, and photo and music playback.
The Kogan 6 eBook Reader has around 1,500 free pre-loaded books and will sync with Adobe Digital Editions for managing eBook libraries, support 16 eBook file formats and most online book stores, the vendor claimed.
Ruslan Kogan, founder of Kogan Technologies, said the product "would bring digital e-book reading to the masses".
"We're seeing e-book readers dropping in price, but many are still far too expensive for mainstream use. When you have these devices up to and above $500, you're really asking too much of Australian consumers.
"Most importantly, it's open-market technology; it isn't tied down to one content provider," he said.
The Kogan 6 eBook Reader costs $189 with free shipping during the presale period and is bundled with a leather case.
Kogan sells direct to end users.
