In an interview with CRN, Bronwyn Gascoigne, sales manager A/NZ at Bullguard, said IT service providers will need to have specific anti-virus solutions for mobile handsets.
She claimed that ordinary anti-virus products and network security won't help those with valuable company information stored on their handsets.
"Recently there was an outbreak of a symbian virus specifically written for mobile products," said Gascoigne.
"Those viruses are going to become more prevalent and resellers must start protecting their customers now.
"Australian hasn't seen any real attacks - yet."
According to a recent VNU article half of all mobile phone manufacturers reported malware infections, voice or text spam attacks and other security incidents last year.
In a new research released at Mobile World Congress by security giant McAfee, 70 percent of manufacturers think that mobile security is critical to their future, and highlight device protection as an important step.
