iPhone 5 and iPad 3 to get 4G LTE

The iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are both set to come with 4G LTE connectivity when they arrive in the UK.

With Apple’s iPad 3 landing as soon as March, it’s unlikely the UK will be 4G-ready in time to welcome it properly. But hopefully by the time the iPhone 5 arrives in September, O2’s 2013 launch plans for 4G in the UK will be in place.

Nikkei Business reports that Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo met with Tim Cook in Cupertino to close a deal that will let Apple use its 4G LTE network from the summer of 2012. It’s not the most exciting news for us UK residents, as 4G feels so far away – but knowing the iPhone 5 is future-proof could make it the biggest selling handset of all time. Here's hoping they don't introduce 3-year contracts.
