IoT Alliance Australia (IoTAA), the nation’s peak IoT industry body, has named Adam Beck as CEO.
He takes over from interim CEO Dr Mike Briers AO, who himself replaced founding CEO Frank Zeichner as he transitioned to leading the IoT Security Labelling Scheme for Smart Devices.
Beck previously served as co-chair of the Smart Places and Infrastructure Workstream for IoTAA between January 2022 and December 2024.
His current roles include MD of NEON.URBAN, head of urban planning for the
Urban Robotics Foundation, the co-founder and director of Digital Built Forum and chair of the Queensland PlanTech Working Group.
He's previously served as the GM of business and market development for HUB Australasia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indara; head of digital urbanism for Indara; member of the Smart Places Advisory Council at Service NSW; the founding executive director at Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand; and a member of the Cities Reference Group for the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development, among other positions.
IoTAA chair Judy Anderson said the organisation is "delighted" to appoint Beck as CEO, in part because of his deep experience across the intersections of economic growth and digital enablement, as well as advocacy and industry leadership.
"He has a proven track record of revitalising organisations for impact."
“I would also like to sincerely thank Mike for his steady and capable leadership as Interim CEO, which ensured continuity for our members during this transition."
Beck said IoTAA has a strong legacy of driving innovation and trusted technology to support Australia’s growth and productivity and he sees enormous opportunity ahead.
"My focus will be on strengthening member engagement, positioning the Alliance as a trusted national voice on digital and data transparency, and building projects and programs to drive best practices," he said.
"With the Security Labelling Scheme a central program, we can evolve the organisation to amplify our impact and help shape Australia’s digital trust and transparency agenda."
Regarding his new role leading the scheme development, Zeichner said it has been a privilege to serve as CEO of IoTAA.
"I’m proud to now focus on the Security Labelling Scheme, which is a game-changing program for consumer trust and industry confidence," he said.
"I warmly welcome Adam into the CEO role and look forward to working with him to ensure the Scheme not only delivers impact but also anchors the next stage of IoTAA’s growth”.
