Internode cuts price of some Telstra services

Internode has begun offering its cheapest plan yet for users on selected Telstra ports.

The 'Easy Reach 30 Special', launched Tuesday, offered 30 gigabytes of download quota for $29.95 per month when bundled with the NodeLine PSTN phone service, also $29.95 per month.

The price of the plan, taken independently from the PSTN bundle, represented the cheapest plan so far for users on resold Telstra connections, who often had to put up with more expensive plans with fewer quotas when compared to those on Optus-enabled exchanges or Internode's own Agile network of DSLAM equipment.

However, the Easy Reach special would likely only be available in a fraction of the 2,786 Telstra exchanges Internode currently resells ADSL services through.

Internode product manager Jim Kellett said the plans had come as a result of a bundling discount special reached through negotiations with Telstra Wholesale for a select number of metropolitan exchanges, standing at more than 300.

Despite the "special" tag, Kellett said Internode had received no cut-off date for when the bundling discount would end, affirming it would be offered for as long as possible.

Internode last year accused Telstra of offering cheaper wholesale prices to service providers which did not compete at an exchange level, but managed to reach a more amicable settlement on the price of wholesale ports at some exchanges.

However, Kellett pointed to coincidental changes this week to Telstra's own broadband plans as evidence of the continuing contention between providers.

"The game continues," he said.
