Internode bolsters Tasmanian ADSL2+ coverage

Internode will transition 3,000 customers currently on Telstra broadband infrastructure over to new Internode DSLAMs at seven exchanges in Hobart and Launceston.

Many of the customers will go from having 1500 Kbps services to ADSL2+ speeds "at no extra cost", according to managing director, Simon Hackett.

The transition would take place over the next two months, he said.

The affected customers were on connections underpinned by a Telstra wholesale service that Internode resold.

The transition was made possible because Internode enabled its own ADSL2+ services at the Howrah, Sandy Bay, Lindisfarne, Kingston and New Town exchanges in Hobart, and the South Launceston and St John exchanges in Launceston.

It also expected to add two more ADSL2+ equipped exchanges at Bellerive and Glenorchy in the second quarter.

Until now, Internode had its own ADSL2+ equipment installed only at the Davey and Bathurst exchanges in Tasmania, although it has offered ADSL2+ services through Telstra Wholesale equipment.
