Integrator pitches in on NSW bushfire effort

Integrator Datacom has scaled up its outsourcing services in the wake of the devastating bushfires.

A spokesperson for the New Zealand-headquartered company, which works with public sector organisations on both sides of the Tasman, told CRN that it has expanded its "contact centre operational work" with Service NSW.

"Obviously there's an overflow of work from the very busy bushfire information line," he said.

Yesterday, the integrator posted on Facebook: "As part of our scaled-up operations, 37 temps have been brought in and trained to answer rapid deployment of Rural Fire Service (RFS) overflow calls, from the Bushfire Information Line.

"Within two hours, they were up and ready, and with support of five internal service NSW staff, providing real-time information from the RFS website, addressing FAQs about the current state of the fires and locations of no-go areas, offering a contact point for information for distressed callers and important advice on non-essential travel."

Other providers pitching in to help the bushfire effort include, Optus, which is giving out prepaid phones for customers in need, through its retail partner in Springwood, The Phone House.

Telstra has offered customers assistance packages with free diversions of landline phones to a mobile phone and for calls made on that mobile to be charged at landline rates for a period of time.

"Telstra will attempt to hold all bills for affected customers until a more appropriate time. Residents in bushfire-affected areas can use any Telstra payphone to make free local, national and mobile calls."
