Ingram Micro keeps schtum on security cloud

Ingram Micro is keeping tight-lipped about possible plans for cloud-based security products, following a new partnership with backup and recovery vendor Acronis to distribute the company’s disaster recovery and data protection products.

The deal sees the IT distributor build on a global relationship with Acronis, making available its product suite to Australia and New Zealand resellers.

Ingram Micro’s software business manager Lee Welch said the explosion of end point devices has meant increased demand from resellers for security products.

“The market is moving towards smartphones and tablets,” Welch said. “The message is all around protecting those end points, making sure you have back up if things do go wrong.”

Ingram's security stable includes Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro and CA Technologies.

Welch said the company was increasing its internal resources to help resellers deal with growing demand for security solutions.

"As well as a team of product managers and a team of licensing and sales account managers, we also have a security solutions architect, who is focused on assisting resellers with developing their security practices," Welch said.

“We’ve got 60 plus people in the licensing team which support all 15 of our software vendors, and that team is very much growing.”
