Ingram Micro debuts iPhone/iPad app for resellers

Ingram Micro has launched a native iOS version of its B2B e-commerce website, Techlink, with an Android version soon to follow.

The application (Version 1.0) can be used by Ingram Micro customers to check their current order status, search for products and check pricing and availability. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.

Ingram Micro's e-commerce web education manager Grant Abbott said the app formed part of a global launch.

"We've had the mobile application in trial in Germany where it was developed from the ground up, and we've now taken it globally," Abbott told CRN.

Ingram Micro is billing the customisable app as a convenient way to access Techlink 24/7.

"Instead of being forced to find a computer while away from the office,  [resellers] can just pull out their iPhone and check the pricing of products that way," Grant said.

The current version of the app does not support order placements, though this has been promised in a future update.

"Customers will have the ability to place orders directly from their mobile device from the next version of the app, which should land in February-March," Grant said.

According to Grant, the app forms part of a wider mobile strategy from Ingram Micro. Features in the app include full search capabilities, detailed product information around stock levels, pricing, availability, specifications and accessories, customisable settings and real-time tracking.
