IBM has added Ingram Micro and Avnet to its list of local distributors for Tivoli Storage Manager.
The deal gives both IBM hardware distributors a taste of IBM software.
IBM said the strategy is aimed at growing its Tivoli customer base.
Effective immediately, the pair will distribute to new Tivoli customers, while existing Tivoli customers continue to purchase through existing distributors: itX, Express Data and Westcon.
"It's a highly complementary product for our Enterprise Technology Group (ETG), and one which we see great growth potential for," said David Lenz, Ingram Micro's Enterprise Technology Group director.
Avnet marketing director, Michael Costigan, said the deal represented Big Blue's return to its distribution portfolio. The distie had stopped distributing IBM software five years ago.
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager protects data from failures and other errors, the vendor claimed.
