Managed security platform provider Huntress has announced a strategic collaboration with CyberCert to deliver the SMB1001 cybersecurity standard to businesses in Australia.

This partnership aims to enhance cyber resilience for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) through Huntress's extensive partner ecosystem.

The initiative, led by Huntress regional director for Asia-Pacific, Reece Appleton, and CyberCert co-founder and chief executive Peter Maynard, will offer SMB1001 certifications to a number of Huntress managed service provider (MSP) partners.

The multi-tiered standard includes Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond certifications, each representing increased alignment with cybersecurity requirements.

"The SMB1001 CyberCert standard aims to democratise access to cybersecurity standards tailored specifically for SMBs who don't have IT and security experts at their disposal," Maynard explained.

He highlighted the standard's affordability and simplicity compared to more complex certifications like ISO/IEC 27001.

Huntress will subsidise certification subscriptions, allowing partners to guide their customers through a cybersecurity improvement journey.

"The SMB1001 standard fills a massive gap in the SME space," Appleton said.

The collaboration addresses a critical need in the market, as many partners have struggled to align their customers with more complex and costly standards or frameworks.

While not replacing recognised frameworks like the Essential Eight or ISO 27001, the SMB1001 standard can be used alongside them or as a stepping stone.

"The CyberCert and Huntress initiative has been instrumental for us in the industry," Michael Gibby, managing director of MSP SEQ IT that was early out of the gates in the partnership.

Gibby said it was effective in simplifying complex cybersecurity processes for clients.

By providing accessible and affordable certification options, Huntress and CyberCert are helping to bridge the gap between enterprise-level security measures and the needs of smaller businesses, ultimately contributing to a more secure digital landscape for all.

Reece Appleton of Huntress will take part in the session "Strategic Shifts - Evolving Your Cybersecurity Business For Tomorrow's Market" at CRN Pipeline on August 14. See the Pipeline agenda and register your interest in attending.
