Chinese telecommunications vendor, Huawei, has slammed allegations made The Australian newspaper that it's local office had employed technicians with links to the Chinese Government.
In a statement to the media, Guo Fulin, managing director at Huawei said the newspaper's continued focus on unproven allegations do a "disservice" to the networking equipment company's local workforce.
He stated the articles published in The Weekend Australian (5-6 September), were totally without foundation and based purely on unsubstantiated allegations.
"The articles also [said] Huawei [was] being investigated by ASIO. We are not aware of any investigation," wrote Fulin. "However, we can be certain that any review would find the allegations that are the focus of your articles to be baseless."
Fulin stated it was important to point out that the company approached ASIO as part of a briefing on its company.
"In the case of ASIO, we felt it was important that this agency was fully aware of our activities in light of the false allegations included in past articles [in The Australian]," he said.
Huawei was 100 percent employee-owned and had no "involvement from governments or government agencies", Fulin said.
