The HP ProCurve MSM317 Access Device is designed for use in places where a large number of individual connections are required, such as hotel rooms, hospitals, dormitories and apartments.
The device plugs directly into a wall socket and delivers multiple IP-based services, including VoIP phones, televisions and room controls, while also allowing connections from mobile devices such as laptops and smartphones.
The MSM317 supports Power over Ethernet, and each unit can be centrally managed by any HP ProCurve MultiService Mobility controller to implement and manage security, roaming and quality-of-service policies.
"Property owners and network operators can deliver multiple high-value voice, video and data services to guests and other occupants with these new solutions," said Roger Sands, director of worldwide mobility solutions at HP ProCurve.
"These converged network offerings extend HP ProCurve's product portfolio into a new category of innovative network edge products that help customers reduce the complexity of installing and managing wired and wireless network services."
The company also unveiled a pair of MultiService Mobility controllers. The MSM765 controller physically integrates into HP ProCurve 5400 and 8200 Series switches, and the MSM760 acts as a standalone appliance.
All three products are available in the United States. The ProCurve MSM317 Access Device has a recommended retail price of US$349, while the MSM760 and MSM765 Mobility Controllers sell for US$7,999 and US$6,999 respectively.
