Harvey Norman, Apple are the most complained about companies in NSW

Harvey Norman and Apple have spent a whole year among the most complained-about businesses in New South Wales, NSW Fair Trading has revealed, as it marks 12 months of complaints register publishing.

The complaints register saw more than 4500 complaints filed against 79 companies since it was established 12 months ago, with technology companies and retailers making regular appearances.

Throughout the year, 265 complaints were recorded for Apple; Harvey Norman attracted 376 complaints and The Good Guys were complained about 213 times. Samsung Electronics was also on the list with 213 complaints registered. Apple, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys appeared on all 13 published reports.

NSW Fair Trading commissioner Andrew Gavrielatos said while some traders continued to appear each month, many only appeared once.

“This is a clear sign that the register is having the desired effect of encouraging businesses to improve the service and product they provide to NSW consumers,” he said.

“The register also provides an avenue for consumers to help each other; if enough report a trader’s poor service, they can help warn fellow consumers via the register.”

On the complaints register for July, the most recent report available, Harvey Norman (39), ticketing company Viagogo (30), Samsung (27) and Apple (27) top the list. Online retailer Kogan also made an appearance, garnering 16 complaints.
