Google Cloud SQL is now available to all Google customers. This is a fully managed MySQL service hosted on Google Cloud Platform that provides a database backbone for applications running on Google App Engine or Google Compute Engine.
The service includes encryption of customer data, a 99.95% uptime SLA, and support for databases up to 500GB in size.
Google Cloud SQL Customer data, including in database tables and temporary files, is automatically stored encrypted. Encryption of backups is coming soon. All Cloud SQL traffic on Google’s internal networks is encrypted and external connections can be encrypted using SSL.
By using replicated storage means Google guarantees 99.95% availability of the service. The SLA regards a single minute of just 20% connection failure as a downtime. So, performance is not just about availability but also operational functionality.
Pricing starts at $0.36 per day. This gives 500MB, 200K I/O per day and a maximum of 25 concurrent connections and queries.
There are a further six service packages with the highest level, designated D32, offering 10GB of storage, 32 million I/O per day and 3200 concurrent connections and queries. This costs $46.84 per day. If package deals don’t fit customer needs, there are also "per use" pricing options.
