Google rewards early Glass users with new pair

Google is givinga free update to a newer model.

Google hasn't made its smart glasses widely available yet, but shipped the $1,500 devices to early adopters and developers to get feedback and encourage app development.

To say "thank you", Google is handing out new hardware to anyone currently using Glass, letting users swap their first-gen devices for a refreshed model.

"This hardware update will allow your Glass to work with future lines of shades and prescription frames, and we’ll also include a mono earbud," Google said.

Users aren't required to update, but will have 60 days to do so. The update is open to anyone who purchased Glass before 28 October 2013.

Google Glass wearers will also "have the opportunity to invite" three friends to the early adopters programme - meaning Google will let them buy the device.

The invites are already selling on eBay.
