GetData gets new global developers
The growing global success of local privately-owned data recovery vendor GetData, has lead the software developer to hire three new engineers to help creating new products for the data recovery market.

The Sydney-based software developer now has around 100,000 clients globally and around 95 percent of sales headed out of the US and European markets, said GetData media representative, John Hanrahan.

GetData has hired Vladimer Sukholinin, Derick Greeff and Kevin Lock from Russia and South Africa, for the roles of software engineers, taking the current staff number to 13. They will also be based in the Sydney office.

The software engineers were hired to help work on GetData’s products, which range from data recovery software products to high end forensic investigations tools used by the CIA and US Military like Mount Image Pro v2, said Hanrahan.

GetData plans to expand its team further with more hires in the next 12 months, although the company has no specific number of hires in mind, he said.

The software vendor was founded in 2001 by two ex-law enforcement agents John Hunter and Graham Henley; and Dr Brett Hunter a former nuclear physicist. All three directors developed the applications behind the range of GetData software.

Director, John Hunter said the development of a data recovery software program was a natural progression.

“Computer forensics was about finding the IT evidence that no-one knew was there. As long as a deleted file hasn’t been overwritten it can be recovered,” he said.

GetData products are available directly from the developer’s website and box products are available from retail stores.

GetData is distributed in France by Micro Application. It is also on the verge of signing a distribution agreement with a UK distributor, said Hanrahan.

Locally, GetData, products are being pushed onto the Australian market through retail giants like Domain, Harris Technology, Harvey Norman, Fletcher Photographic, Chandlers, Myers, Ted’s Cameras, The Good Guys, Retravision Brisbane and City Software in Victoria, through its distribution with Lako Pacific – established in December 2005.

Hanrahan claims GetData’s success is due to the combination of its low entry price products ($69.95), downloadable ‘try before you by trials’ and the establishment of a presence in Europe and the US.

“Establishing markets in areas like Europe and the US/Canada is what has driven our global sales. The sheer size of the population in those countries compared to that of Australia, means we have more people to sell to”, said Hanrahan.

GetData has 14 products including Recover My Files, Explorer View, Recover Outlook Express, Zip Repair Pro, SecureClean, Mount Image Pro v2, WinBackup, Recover My photos, Recover My Email, Repair My Backup, Burn My Files v2, WipeDrive and Computer Security Tool.
