Fuji Xerox has acquired Triangle Corporation, its sole Australian distributor of wide format devices.
Announced this week, the acquisition was expected to extend Fuji Xerox's direct reach into the local architectural, construction and engineering markets.
"Fuji Xerox Australia has been in the wide format market for many years, but in the recent past has relied on Triangle Corporation to distribute the equipment," company spokesperson Pam Fleming told CRN.
"With the acquisition, Fuji Xerox Australia are now able to foster a direct relationship with our customers in this market."
Fleming said it was too soon to comment on how the Triangle acquisition would affect Fuji Xerox's channel strategy and partners.
Triangle was appointed the sole distributor of Fuji Xerox's Xerox Engineering Systems (XES) equipment in August 2002, after the vendor had spent almost a year searching for a distributor whose agreements with competitive brands were not an issue.
While it relied solely on Fuji Xerox for black and white printing solutions, Triangle also was partnered with Hewlett Packard and distributed HP Designjet colour printers and scanners.
Fleming again said it was too soon to comment on Fuji Xerox's plans for the HP partnership, noting: "Fuji Xerox Australia will focus on delivery of its own equipment."
"We will spend 90 days reviewing the assets so it is too soon to comment on procedures," she told CRN.
During the next three months, the vendor would focus on providing continued service delivery and support to Triangle customers.
Triangle's managing director Stuart Hardeman was expected to retire when the acquisition is completed.
Fuji Xerox announced that the Triangle acquisition was its "second strategic purchase in two years", following its acquisition of Kaz Group's Business Process Outsourcing division in 2008.
The company's managing director Nick Kugenthiran said: "This acquisition is a key part of a strategic journey to expand our technology and services offerings and develop integrated document services across various industries."
"It also signals a new, aggressive era in which Fuji Xerox Australia is not only consolidating, but increasing our market leadership."
