Victorian reseller Flexnet has won a software-defined storage deployment for the Cheap as Chips discount variety store business.
The win will see Flexnet deploy DataCore’s SANsymphony software to manage storage across 30 stores covering South Australia, Victoria and New South wales.
In addition, Flexnet is also deploying storage hardware for Cheap as Chips, including a virtual SAN running on IBM x3650 M4 servers using iSCSI and Intel p3700 SSDs.
The upgrade will help Cheap as Chips manage a large product catalogue, said the variety stores’ ICT manager Eamonn Merrifield.
“We usually carry over 14,000 product lines at any time and the tiered storage solution offers us performance in areas where we need it most,” Merrifield said.
“A primary factor in Cheap as Chips’ decision to go with DataCore was they do not restrict us to certain storage vendors. This allows us to take advantage of the rapidly changing storage market,” he said.
Cheap as Chips sells homewares, party supplies, craft supplies, cleaning products, toys and other items imported from South East Asia and sourced from Australia. The company has a 17,000 square metre distribution centre at Adelaide Airport.
Flexnet first engaqed with Cheap as Chips in July this year and did not have an ongoing managed services contract with the retailer, a spokesperson said.
